Carol Louise Brown is an Australian politician and member of the Australian Labor Party. Born on 19 July 1963 in Hobart, Tasmania, she is the eighth of thirteen children of union and Labor activists Julia and Rex Brown. Her great-grandmother, Mary Butler, was a founding member of the Hobart branch of the ALP, while her uncle Leo Brown served as state president of the party. Brown joined the ALP at a young age and worked as an administrative officer with the party from 1984 to 1996.
